He looked confused at first, tilting his head to the side at her gratitude. "For what?" he asked finally. He couldn't imagine what he deserved a thank you for. He'd done what he had to as a responsible part - though he hardly saw it as a burden. He was doing what he knew was right. It was easier since it was something he wanted instead of something out of his reach or out of his understanding. John was happy and he very rarely felt unadulterated joy.
