She rushed in to his side, stopping short of collapsing on him. John, who had spent his time awake looking around and hoping for answers, now looked as though he already knew it all. She looked at him, fear and worry in her eyes. He couldn't reach for her because he was in pain, less since the meds kicked in, but it was there. He looked up at her, still healing, still looking like hell, yet his expression was that same mask of indifference.
"Nothing worse than usual," he mused, an evenness in his tone that shouldn't have been there. "I just have to rest longer than I would given any other burn. You alright? You feel okay? I'm sure we gave you a bit of a fright, love."
