Of the many strange occurrences she could attribute to the community, Scotty being transformed into a woman definitely ranked among the top few. Of course, there was no way to be sure that it was community-related, but it seemed likely given that they'd encountered nothing in their universe that seemed to explain it.

She knew he was extremely distressed by the situation, but it was still a little comical. She just had to keep reminding herself that he was still Scotty, and certain areas of conversation were always going to be awkward, no matter what genders they were.

But she wasn't going to leave him to face his transformation alone, so she packed up what she saw as the essentials and walked to his quarters, ringing the com when she arrived.

He smiled, trying not to fidget, still waiting on his nails to dry. "You remember what I said, though, back when I was tryin' t'decide whether or not t'give it a go? I mean, the general idea's still the same. Maybe it won't work out, an' maybe I'll get a bit hurt, but if that happens, it's hardly the end o' the world. An'... who knows. Could be more'n worth the risk, if it does work out."

Nyota nodded but didn't reply. It sounded like a very healthy approach to relationships, one she often had a difficult time emulating. Putting herself out there wasn't always the easiest thing to do. "I think we need popcorn," she announced. "I'll get some, since your nails are still drying." Only when she'd returned with a bowl of popcorn did she add, "I think that's a very good approach to relationships."

Zoe Bell is gorgeous. Also lol they're Zoe and Zoe right now.

Scotty had reached a point in his life where the prospect of settling down was simply not an option; whatever it was that he had with Jack right now was more or less the best he could hope for when it came to a relationship. And he was okay with that, because he didn't need someone to come home to every day; he needed someone who'd understand when the ship came first, someone who didn't mind going a bit without getting to see him. And Jack was exactly that someone. He just... hadn't counted on getting attached. "I just hope it does work out. Somehow. Whatever's there t'work out."

"That's the question, isn't it... If you're happy with the status quo, there might not be anything to work out." She knew she probably wouldn't be happy with the arrangement Scotty had, but it seemed to be working out well enough for him. The ship would always come first, so a committed relationship could be difficult to maintain.

"I think," he said after a moment, unable to keep from tapping his fingers against his legs, "first I have t'figure out what it is I want." He should probably talk to Jack about it at some point too, but... Not until he had a better idea of how he felt and what he wanted in their relationship.

"I agree, though that's often easier said than done." She smiled and offered him the popcorn, because it was clearly necessary. "But I have confidence that you'll figure it out eventually."

"Here's hopin', anyway." He reached over to grab some of the popcorn, before adding, "Alright. So now what do we do?"

"Now we watch sappy movies and have pillow fights, obviously," she replied, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"I don't think so," he replied, raising his eyebrows at her. "You just want t'be able t'say you had a pillow fight with the Chief Engineer. Admit it."

Nyota was laughing - definitely not giggling. "Of course not, Scotty," she replied, trying and failing to look innocent. "It'll be good for you."

"Right. I believe that." He stretched a bit, grabbed some more popcorn. "Have I even got enough pillows for a pillow fight? I'm pretty sure I've only got the one."

She glanced around his quarters, frowning slightly in thought. "We can use the sofa cushions."

"You're kiddin'." Another handful of popcorn, and he flicked a piece at her, grinning. "I'm not goin' t'let you smack me around with a cushion, love."

She chuckled when he flicked the popcorn at her. "Oh, come on, it'd be fun," she protested, not really expecting him to agree. "I'm going to tell people it happened anyway."

"Right, they'll believe that. 'Aye, so the other day, I went t'visit Scotty an' I braided his hair an' painted his nails an' we had a pillow fight'. Y'know no one but you an' the rest o' whoever's on the community don't actually know this's happened, right?" Not that he thought she was serious about going around and telling people that it happened.

"Oh, I have my ways of convincing them," she teased, though she had no intentions of sharing this with anyone. His question did give her pause, however. "You haven't told anyone else on the ship about this?"

"Not yet. I figure if it lasts past shore leave, well. Then I might have t'say something about it, but if it doesn't..." He shrugged. "No harm in no one knowin'."

"True," she agreed, taking another handful of popcorn. "So if you're really against the pillow fight, what do you say to the sappy movie?"

"Which one did you have in mind?" Just as long as it wasn't anything too sappy, he was pretty sure he'd be okay with whatever she picked out.

"Let's see, the perfect sappy movie..." She grinned at him and then announced, "Hot Fuzz."

He raised an eyebrow, before asking, "An' what's that, exactly?" In his personal opinion, it sounded like the title to something a bit explicit, but he was pretty sure there was no way in hell Uhura would suggest something like that.

"It's a 21st century action film that's supposedly hilarious. I heard about it through the community," she replied innocently, decidedly not mentioning that the star apparently looked exactly like Scotty - when he was male, anyway.

He shrugged, grinning, and replied, "Alright, you had me at action film. We'll give it a go, aye?"

"Wonderful," she replied, calling up the movie so it would be projected on the wall of her quarters. Then she settled comfortably in her corner of the couch and reached for another handful of popcorn.

Scotty wasn't entirely sure what to expect. But the movie really wasn't all that bad, for a 21st-century film, though for some reason he couldn't quite put his finger on, the main character seemed kind of familiar...
